The following steps are an overview of the process of setting up a private cloud using Ubuntu Enterprise Cloud. Get complete, detailed instructions on building a private cloud

1. Download

Download Ubuntu Server Edition

2. Install

Install Ubuntu Server Edition and select 'Install Ubuntu Enterprise Cloud'. You will need to do this for your Cloud Controller Server and for at least one node server.

3. Access

Access the UEC admin console through your web browser to create your account. You will be given the URL for the admin console during your installation.

4. Set up security

Set up security on your UEC account to manage and access your service.

5. Set up your cloud

Download and install a tool to allow you to start and stop instances.

You can use either Elastic Fox or Euca2ools for free. Euca2ools is open source and comes with Ubuntu Server.

You can also use a management tool like RightScale, CohesiveFT or Canonical's Landscape.

6. Add applications

Use the image store on UEC to select the machine image you need.

Alternatively, you can download machine images.

7. Manage

Use your selected tool to choose and start your machine instances.

You will also use this tool to manage your instances in future.
